Tetsuro Funai was born in Japan. Tetsuro Funai, founder of Japanese TV producer Funai Electric, died on July 4, 2017 at age 90. Funai, the son of a sewing machine manufacturer from Kobe, Japan, started out wholesaling sewing machines, then moved into transistor radios and later TV production. In the early 2000s, Funai Electric was the world's largest producer of VCRs. Funai Electric supplied its TVs to U.S. giant Walmart. Tetsuro Funai was a member of Forbes' list of the World's Billionaires from 2000 through 2007; he dropped off the list when the stock price of Funai Electric fell amid stiff competition from Chinese companies. He last appeared on Forbes' list of Japan's 50 Richest in 2015, with an estimated net worth of $630 million.
