BIOGRAPHY

S. Truett Cathy was bornon 14 March 1921 in United States. S. Truett Cathy, founder of fried chicken giant Chick-fil-A, died in September 2014 at age 93. The company said Cathy "died peacefully at home, surrounded by loved ones." The devout Baptist and longtime Sunday school teacher stepped down as chairman of Chick-fil-A in November 2013, leaving it in the hands of Dan Cathy, his oldest son. Younger son Don 'Bubba' Cathy oversees the company's other dining brands, Dwarf House and Truett's Grill. As the elder Cathy slowed down, the fried chicken juggernaut he started as one Atlanta eatery in 1967 thrived. System-wide sales hit $5 billion in 2013, making the Georgia-based outfit the country's largest quick-service chicken chain. Cathy, who has been credited as a pioneer of mall dining, worked his way to a $6.3 billion fortune from scratch, having opened his first diner at age 25. He was also known for putting his religious convictions ahead of his bottom line. For instance, all Chick-fil-A stores are shut on Sundays so employees can attend church.
