Roberto Civita & family was bornon 9 August 1936 in Brazil, is President of the Management Board and Editorial Director, Abril GroupPresident of the Management Board and Editorial Director, Abril Group. Roberto Civita, who inherited a media group started by his father and turned it into one of Brazil's largest magazine publishers, died on May 27, 2013 due to complications from an aneurysm, according to his media company, Grupo Abril. Civita's father Victor founded Abril in 1950; Roberto took over when his father died in 1990. The group employs some 7,000 people. Its Editora Abril arm publishes some of Brazil's most read magazines, including the newsweekly Veja, which Roberto Civita founded in 1968. His family also owns a majority of publicly traded education firm Abrill Educacao. Civita was born in Italy, moved with his family to the U.S. and then to Brazil. He got a bachelor's degree from the University of Pennsylvania and a masters degree in sociology from Columbia University. Civita is survived by his second wife, Maria Antonia; three children from his first marriage, Giancarlo (who will take his place as the head of Abril), Roberta and Victor; and six grandchildren.
