Richard Rainwater was bornon 15 June 1944 in United States. Legendary dealmaker Richard Rainwater died in September 2015 at age 71. He had been fighting a rare neurodegenerative disease, progressive supranuclear palsy, for six years. In search of a cure, his Rainwater Charitable Foundation had spent more than $50 million to draw together top researchers into a group called the Tau Consortium, named after the protein that causes the disease and which is also a factor in Alzheimers. Their work will continue. Rainwater got his start at age 26 managing assets for the Bass family of Fort Worth in the 1970s. The Stanford Business School grad broke out on his own in 1986, minting his own billion-dollar fortune. He later quipped: "I'm just a retired guy who made a couple billion by being in the right place at the right time." His gregarious mentorship helped spark the careers of fellow billionaires Eddie Lampert and David Bonderman.
