Mikhail Fedyaev was born in Russia. Mikhail Fedyaev, with fellow billionaire Vladimir Gridin, controls the privately held conglomerate Sibirskiy Delovoy Soyuz (or Siberian Business Union), which has operations in coal mining, engineering, chemicals, transportation and construction. SDS produces more than 20 million tons of coal a year and two years ago bought a fertilizers producer in Kemerovo from Sibur for about $1 billion. Fedyaev after college worked as a mechanic in a car factory. In the 1990s Fedyaev met Vladimir Gridin and, with support from Aman Tuleev, the governor of Kemerovo Oblast, they became co-owners of a coal field. Fedyaev's son Pavel became State Duma deputy for Putin's Edinaya Rossiya party in 2011.
