
Jacob Stolt-Nielsen & family was bornon 12 May 1931 in Norway. Norwegian shipping magnate Jacob Stolt-Nielsen spent more than 50 years at Stolt-Nielsen S.A., which he founded with just one ship. He died in February 2015 at age 83. He had retired as a director of the company in December 2014. Stolt-Nielsen was a member of Forbes list of the World's Billionaires in 2014, with a net worth of $1.15 billion. By February 2015, the stock price of Stolt-Nielsen S.A. had dropped dramatically, lowering his net worth to an estimated $600 million. Jacob Stolt-Nielsen made headlines in 2011 for his opinion on how to deal with piracy, saying "I'm just telling it like it is. The way to solve the pirate problem is to sink the pirates and their ships." He began his career at a ship brokerage in London before moving to New York city to work as a broker in the chemicals industry.
