G.V. Krishna Reddy was born in India. Farmer's son and one of six siblings, he got start at uncle's tiny construction firm in Hyderabad. Went on to found his own venture making particle boards in the US. Returned home in 1991 and snatched license in 1992 to build a power plant, among the first in the private sector. Big break came in 2006 when he won the bid to modernize Mumbai airport, India's busiest. Son Sanjay, who is vice-chairman of GVK, looks after this project. Also second largest shareholder in Bangalore airport after buying stakes late last year from Zurich Airport and Larsen & Toubro for a cumulative $250 million. Is also building a 600MW thermal power plant in North India for $700 million. Wife Indira and daughter Shalini oversee Taj GVK Hotels, a joint venture with the Taj hotel chain. Tennis fanatic, he plays everyday and sponsors tennis champ Sania Mirza.
