Dwight Schar was bornon 1942 in United States. Raised in Ohio, worked nights at a pipe-fitting factory to pay for classes at Ashland College. Became a junior high school teacher, moved to real estate. Bought land for Ryan Homes; quit to branch off on own. Founded NVHomes 1979; took public 1986. Borrowed big to buy former employer Ryan Homes same year. Filed for bankruptcy 1992, recovered. Has netted hundreds of millions from stock sales since mid-1990s. Owns minority stake in pro football's Washington Redskins. Bought Ronald Perelman's Palm Beach property for $70 million in 2004.

In May 2015, Dwight and Martha Schar donated $50M, which is the single largest gift to a health-related organization in the mid-Atlantic states
In 2011, Schar once again donated at least another $800,000 to his high school, Norwayne High School, to update the auditorium, putting in the latest lighting and sound technologies
In 2009 Schar again made a $7 million donation towards the new Ashland University on-campus football, track & field and Soccer facilities, named appropriately "Dwight Schar Athletic Complex"
In 2006, he donated $5 million to his alma mater, Ashland University, to help fund the construction of their new education building
