David Hearst, Jr. was born in United States. David Whitmire Hearst Jr. is a grandson of media baron William Randolph Hearst. He is one of four Hearst cousins on the Forbes 400, and is a beneficiary of the family trust that owns media giant Hearst Corp. David Hearst is a photographer and a collector of vintage Leica and Hasselblad cameras; his foundation has lent its collection for display at the University of California at Riverside/California Museum of Photography. The Museum featured a show of David Hearst's photographs this summer. The Hearst Corp. media empire includes newspapers, magazines, TV and radio stations, and stakes in cable networks ESPN, Lifetime, and A&E. The cable holdings are doing especially well: Hearst Corp.'s stake in ESPN is worth more than $11 billion. The family owns the 90,000-square-foot Hearst Castle in San Simeon, Calif. in 2005 the state paid the Hearsts $95 million to preserve the property.
