Louie and drug store chain London Drugs. His Vancouver-based holding company H.Y. Louie is the second largest private firm in the province. Grandfather Hok Yat Louie immigrated to Vancouver from China in 1986 and worked as a farm laborer. Hok Yat eventually saved enough money to open a small general store in the city's Chinatown. Louie joined the family business in 1972 and became president in 1987.
